A school uniform is a set of clothing that a student is required to wear in order to go to that school. Uniforms are a way to distinguish the students of a specific school. Some schools use school uniforms in order to reduce the amount of “skippers” in their schools. Other schools use school uniforms in order to encourage discipline. If a school doesn’t have a uniform then they should have a strict dress code.
Dress codes are a set of rules, specifying the required style at which you should dress in. Dress codes are used in order to make sure kids aren’t wearing improper clothing, in a school setting. (Marian Wilde; Do uniforms makes schools better ?)

School uniforms have some positives and some negatives. There are ways that school uniforms can bring a school down and there are ways they can bring them up.
School uniforms stop other students from being judged on the way they look. We all know there are plenty of ways to judge people, and we all have judged someone. You can judge people on their cloths and that’s what most teenagers’ judge each other upon. Some kids can’t help whether or not they have name brand clothing or not. So uniforms help reduce that judgment on cloths. How are kids going to judge one other if they are all wearing the same cloths?
Actually there are plenty of other ways to judge people; you can judge them on their body figure, their shoes, their hair, or even facial features. There are plenty of other ways to judge people. If schools are trying to get rid of judgment all together then they should think of another way, because there is an unlimited amount of ways to judge people. Uniforms will just make it easier to find other ways to judge people. (Arguments about Uniforms 2005)
If your school has a uniform then it would be easier to distinguish your students from other students. What this is saying is that if another student from a different came into the school, then it wouldn’t be a struggle to identify them from the rest of the students, because all the rest of the students are wearing matching outfits. It will also make it easier to distinguish an intruder, if an intruder was to come in the school. This is especially effective in high schools, because it is obvious when an intruder is in an elementary or middle school. That being because high school students start look like adults. (Arguments about Uniforms 2005)
School uniforms also encourage discipline in a school, because if a student at least feels like they need to wear a uniform, then they also feel like they are under control of the school. This is because they feel like there are actually a full set of rule they have to comply with.
It doesn’t always encourage discipline, because not all schools will imply a school uniforms, especially high school. We all know how resistant teens are, resistant, and that’s why it’s easier to put a school dress code in effect for elementary and high schools. Sometimes it’s even hard to involve middle school kid with a school uniforms. It is more common for high schools and middle schools to have a dress code. The dress code usually doesn’t allow students to wear specific gang affiliated clothing, such as bandanas. Baggy pants, ridiculously big chains, legging, strapless shirts, hats, holey jeans, and flip flops are all also examples of what dress codes usually ban from the school. If the student doesn’t listen to these regulations then they will either be suspended, or have other severe consequences.
