One of a substance that product by the fat cell in our body is called Leptin, if we have more fat cells, we are able to produce more leptin, and it plays a key role in regulating energy intake and expenditure, including appetite, hunger, metabolism, and behavior. When the levels of Leptin are high, animals act as if they have plenty of nutrition, they will eat less and become more active, and increase the activity of their immune system. On the other hand, the levels of Leptin are low; animals will eat more, and rest more because they have to conserve energy that affords to devote energy to their immune system. The investigators have used a short term regulation of feeding which is providing an environment for libitum access to three kind of food which is normal chow, chocolate cereal and special K for over twenty minutes to the rats that they can finished all of the food, in this section, the rats are able to eat as much as they could, and it shows that the rats will start eating when they feel hungry because of their level of leptin become lower than usual leptin that enters their cells, so their body sends a message to the brain that motivated them to start eating and it’s the normal reaction. Moreover, when the rats were full, they will stop eating and become active because of the level of leptin in their body is high which means the level of nutrition was also high, at that time, they will stop eating and become more active. The result shows that the rats will trend to eat normal chow and chocolate cereal when they feel hungry.
In the second test, the investigators were going to get the favorite food by testing the rats using a long term regulation of feeding. In this test, the investigator fed them for a few days by providing both of the normal chow and chocolate cereal which was the food that rats eat mostly in tests one.
