Certain advertisements should be banned. Advertisements promoting the use of drugs, and alcohol should not be allowed. These advertisements may be indirectly target toward the younger audience, influencing them to use drugs, or alcohol. These advertisements are very persuasive, and may influence wrong choices. Advertisements promoting the use of drugs, and alcohol can be removed by banning the advertisements, enlarging the warning signs, and allowing society to be in control of what advertisements are shown.

Smoking and alcohol rates have continued to go up, instead of decreasing. Advertisements promoting the use of alcohol, or tobacco has been linked to the increasing of young audiences to smoke or drink. Tobacco and alcohol advertising is mostly targeted toward the college aged individuals. Most advertisements involve many scenes as if they were from a college life for example scenes involving a club, or a bar.
Advertisements influencing the use of alcohol and drugs should be banned completely. Many advertisements “depicting the use of electronic cigarettes have recently exposed minors to images of smoking behaviors.” (Hodge et al 369-373) These advertisements are still legal but laws should be created to ban advertisements that have any “depiction of smoking behaviors with any product that resembles a cigarette.” (Hodge et al 369-373) During the 2013 Super Bowl, the NJOY King electronic cigarette reached possibly the largest single audience viewers till this day. The advertisement showed the use of an electronic cigarette portraying the use of smoking behavior. Many people had said the NJOY’s advertisement encouraged the use of “unlawful tobacco use among minors.” There are serious health concerns related to the smoking behavior. ”Modern research confirms that children who see smoking behaviors in movies and on television are more likely to perceive smoking as acceptable and eventually try it.” (Hodge et al 369-373) This research clearly shows alcoholic and drug related advertisements should be banned to help prevent the younger audiences from engaging in such activities. Children exposed to the smoking behavior are more likely at risk of becoming long term smokers. Younger audiences who may be persuaded easily may not realize the health concerns related with alcohol and cigarettes. During the 1950s and 1960s advertisements promoting the use of cigarettes raised the use of cigarettes more than ten percent. Alcohol and tobacco commercials have contributed to the rise of underage smokers and drinkers. If the influences of these commercials are negative on the younger audiences, the advertisements should be banned, and prohibited.
