College athletes should be paid; it would help them financially and would lower the chance of athletes getting paid illegally.
Athletes work so hard to get to the next level. They put in an average of 43.3 hours of work each week, which is 3.3 more hours than average Americans. This is showing dedication to make it to the next level, which many of them are capable of if they put in the work, and they are. This is why the athletes are so talented and why they are nationally televised to entertain us fans. College athletes do the same thing as Pro athletes, they go out and perform and entertain and make the NCAA or the Sport make money. The only thing that’s different is that professional athletes get paid for entertaining and college athletes don’t. The main reason that college athletes aren’t paid is because there is so many of them, and their skills aren’t as good as the pros. Another reason why they should get paid is because they risk an injury every time they step on the court or field, and universities don’t usually offer health care. So college athletes are taking a risk in performing, as they want to go pro, maybe risking a career ending injury. For an example, last year during March madness, a player named Kevin Ware was determined to win. He went up to block a shot but when he landed, everything went wrong; his bone had snapped and was visible. All he was doing was trying to help his team win, and resulted in an injury that would last him a whole year. What’s funny is Louisville even made money off him getting injured. They made a shirt with “Win it for Ware” on the front. This is why athletes should be paid, they go out and entertain, just like the pros, and there may be a small difference in skill level, but it’s still exciting to watch, like the last couple of seconds of the NCAA championship and the game is all tied up, where you’re on the edge of your seat hoping that your team will win. College athletes should be paid; they bring in so much revenue to the NCAA and are so determined to make it to the next level. Getting paid will also give them financial help and prevent athletes getting paid illegally.
Everyone has a point of view on this topic, and either thinks college athletes should or shouldn’t be paid. College athletes work very hard and earn no money; they bring in billions for the NCAA and get nothing. But others say they do, on average athletes get about $125,000 per year. “Some people are aware enough to realize that student athletes on athletic scholarship are essentially paid already because they receive free tuition, room, meal plans, and some money for books and miscellaneous expenses. At the bigger, more successful universities, athletes also receive academic counseling, tutoring, life skill training, and even nutritional advice. Certainly, not all student athletes are on scholarship and not all are on full scholarships but the student athletes in the revenue sports are receiving compensation in the form of...
