Just Ask Essay

959 words - 4 pages

Throughout the entire book, The Perks of being a Wallflower, I can’t help but notice how dramatically Charlie’s life changes from a quit, questionable kid to an approachable teen that just does what he’s told. He’s honest, faithful, and passionate and that never changes, but over time Charlie begins to understand how to define those features in a more discerning way. Although Charlie expresses himself by crying throughout the entire book, he also grows to apprehend the importance of cherishing each moment of his life. He’s often very confused but accepts that, and goes on with the exception of questioning anything and everything. He also learns to accept the fact that life isn’t fair you’ll never fully understand why a lot of things happen; and strangely, he seems the handle that well. He often just goes with the flow, sometimes too much, and makes all the burdens of his life seem to grow heavier.
The quote, “So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.” by the author, Stephen Chbosky, describes Charlie’s life so well. Well, atleast his feelings of his life. He struggles with understanding things that just can’t be understood and that leads to him being more and more upset. There’s really only one thing that helps him to forget what made him sad, and that’s reading; so he often just depends on his books for peace or a slight bit of happiness of his life. Personally, although it may seem that he has a great life from the eyes of others, the memories he keeps hidden holds him back in so many ways. Many things remind him of past experiences and that’s often enough to slowly nudge at him till he helplessly yet willingly falls off the edge and back into the darkness of his life. Despite the fact that there’s always people around him, he always seems to be depressed and alone to the point where it involves his health. That part of Charlie really never gets better, but it’s better than it was. He tries so hard to forget until something reminds him again. He somewhat lets out a little of his emotions in his letters but obviously a pen and a sheet of paper isn’t enough to hold what he bears.
Throughout the beginning of his teenage years he begins to find out what love is and how it feels and starts to look at life in a wider lens. Unfortunately, he also soon after finds out what heartbreak feels like when the standards don’t meet up and all his hopes are broken back down. Like Chbosky said, “we accept the love we think...
