Writing Assignment Three
I believe that there was so much attention given to Peter the Great because of his extensive reforms. Peter brought both social and economic changes to his country. He wanted to make Russia big. Peter transformed the culture; he wanted his people to wear the western European fashion. Many of the people were not thrilled with the change because they did not like the ways of the western European societies. He made his navy stronger, he reformed his army to meet the western standards, and he gained control over the church.

Yes, I do believe that Peter the Great was eccentric. He inherited a country that had nothing. He changed things to make the country the way he wanted it to be. He took many risks to get to where he needed to be. He brought new fashions to his culture not only for men but for the women. Peter knew how to be a people person. He was a very serious person, but he loved to socialize with his fellow people.
Based on what I’ve read about Peter the Great I feel that he was a compassionate but sometimes cruel man. He had two different sides to him. He had a side that loved people and another side despised them for revolting against him. I would describe Peter the Great’s personality as powerful and ruthless. Peter was a man who could get anything done. He was a very good leader, but at times he could be harsh. He had the power to do anything he wanted. I believe that he sometimes took his power to far. He changed some of the ways that people were used to and he killed the people who were against him. Over all I don’t think that he was horrible man he was just misguided in some of his actions.
