Use of e-commerce has increased massively since it was first introduced to the general public. Nowadays customers like to do their shopping at their own comfort peacefully at home. E-commerce allows the customer to do this as products are displayed and described to the user before the purchase has been made. However this boost in e-commerce has affected the society both positively and negatively.

• Value: - this can attract customers because most e-commerce offer the products at a lower price then what they sell for at traditional stores. This attracts customers because they can sometimes receive the products at a cheaper price meaning that they help the customer to save money. As the website helps the business save money the customers are more likely to do their shopping online.
If the e-commerce website provides the above attributes they will be able to attract customers and hence change the customer’s perspective on shopping online.
Economic and social Impact due to speed of changes
The internet was first introduced in the 1990s ever since the first introduction the internet has been developed to provide customers with higher speeds however top speed connections can be quite costly. The first form of internet was dial up (56kb) and in the present it is fibre optics (120mb) in remote areas customers may only be capable of accessing the internet through Dial-up (low speeds) this means that loading the website will require a lot of time or even the whole process of making the transaction online will require a lot of time hence being disadvantageous to the customer as they are better of visiting to their local shop. Another case may be the fact that the customer may not be able to afford a computer system or even a network connection preventing them from accessing the website and missing out on the savings they may receive when purchasing online. This is known as social divide.

Once the store is shut down the employees lose their job as well and won’t be able to work in the e-commerce field as they don’t have the technological knowledge required to gain employment. This unemployment is known as high street unemployment because employees are made redundant due to the closure of the store. Running an e-commerce business doesn’t require a lot of space so they are capable of working in a small room or even from home hence affecting the price to rent shops as there is a decline in the number of business willing to buy the shop or paying rent as that much space is not required. This can impact the society as a whole because this may lead to counties unemployment rate to be quite high which means that local authorities to fork out money on unemployment benefits.
Benefits for customer
