Solar Energy Is A More Effective Source Than Wind Energy

810 words - 4 pages

Judging by this title, most people would probably skip reading this paper and go on to something more exciting. Don’t worry, I’m not going to try and sell something. The point of this paper is try and show the reader why solar energy is more effective. Is it possible for anybody to really prove that, or it just an opinion? Both energy sources have their advantages and disadvantages. But which one is the right one? Read on to find out more.

First, even though solar energy is more effective, wind energy does have some effective qualities making readers favor them instead. Such as, wind energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions by using turbines, which produce energy and electricity, and can reduce the electricity costs. Native materials used to construct the wind turbines promote the domestic economy. Wind energy opens new markets and new prospects. “People could not escape air even if they wanted to” (Duke, 2).Wind also is one of the lowest-priced renewable energy technologies available today. Wind is free and can be captured efficiently. Wind is renewable, somedays it might just be a light breeze, or possibly a strong gust of wind. And some days there may be no wind at all. One day there might be enough wind to barely keep you up on your feet, and another day would just be still. But that’s the thing, wind isn’t always there (Energy Matters, 2)

Second of all, here is a list of the difficult consequences of having a wind turbine, rather than a solar panel. The blades on wind turbines have in the past killed incidentally kill birds that get caught in their path. Solar panels are not exactly innocent either, that also have incidentally killed birds. Wind is not always constant and that can determine how much energy you generate. Another disadvantage of wind turbines is that they have been known to suffer mechanical fatigue. Also known to have a chance to be damaged in storms and are unable to function in bad weather (Duke, 3). But that’s definitely not all, wind turbines are noisy too, each can generate the same level of noise as a family car traveling at 70 mph. When turbines are being manufactured, some pollution is produced. (V. Ryan, 2).

On the other hand, solar energy has many great features, maybe even more than wind energy. The production of energy from solar is very quiet, unlike other...

Solar Energy is Superior Essay

1168 words - 5 pages waste water, but cost a lot as well. I know many business people in the water desalination industry say hydraulic pumps are more efficient than solar energy which they claim only works some of the time. That claim is not 100% correct. In fact, solar energy can be stored in areas of the world where the sun doesn’t always shine. A site that is all about using solar energy,, even states that the sun does not provide a

Wind Turbine: A Study to Harness a Energy Source

1466 words - 6 pages Introduction Following the recent developments in renewable energy sources, wind turbines have been one of the primary devices focussed on. Basically, wind turbines are devices that convert the kinetic energy from the wind into electrical power for human usage. “Wind farms” are created in very windy places to harness this energy. It is however impossible to harness the entire power potential from the wind. Only 59% of the total kinetic energy

Solar Energy: An Old Energy Source Used in a New Way

1900 words - 8 pages over four billion years. In one minute it provides enough energy to supply the world’s energy needs for one year. The talk is about the sun, which is “probably the most important source of renewable energy available today” . What is Solar Energy and how can you use it? Solar Energy is derived from the high intensity radiation of the sun, and consist of both light and heat. The heat is a transformation product of light. When light hits an object

Solar Energy

2288 words - 9 pages Someday, our energy sources are going to run out. What will we do? What can we do? Our major source of energy now is fossil fuel. If that were to run out, there must be an alternate way to get energy. Because of this problem, there has been a lot of research going on. Through that research, alternate ways to get energy have been developed. They include wind energy, solar energy, nuclear energy, tidal energy and many more. In this paper

Solar Energy

1016 words - 4 pages Solar Energy Since the beginning of humanity, people have relied on the sun for their daily needs. Whether it is to grow the crops that they eat, dry clothes or warm their family, people have relied on the resource of the sun for sustainability. It was not until people started to get the idea of managing this energy source, that people were able to fully take advantage of the sun. In 1767, a Swiss scientist discovered a practical way to

Solar Energy

1691 words - 7 pages Solar Energy ~Some history, types, and facts~ In this modern fast paced world that we live in, there are many issues that are looked over, energy is one of these. As a world, we are dependant on dwindling fossil fuel supplies and take for granted electricity, oil, and gas. There are four completely renewable sources of energy around us that should be used and developed, they are: wind, growing plants, flowing water, and the sun. These

Solar Energy

This continues until uranium can no longer separate its atoms and the rods need to be replaced. Solar Energy is an alternative electrical energy source. Its a renewable source, because of its abundant supply and limited environmental impact. Solar energy has the ability to power buildings, electronic devices, and spacecrafts through a

1205 words - 5 pages deconstruction. Solar energy is great in this particular area because it can help the environment greatly. Free of cost, passive solar energy can be obtained with few modifications of the house. Solar energy from solar panels can be used instead of electricity from energy plants, which is much more eco-friendly. The third area of green technology is environmentally preferred purchasing. This means buying products or services that have a better

The sun's energy is plentiful, but it is thinly distributed over a large area and must be collected and concentrated to produce usable power. As a result, solar energy is a more expensive power source than fossil fuels for most applications. On the other even though it may be more expensive its well

Solar energy has been in use for as far back as 7th century B.C. During this time, people used magnifying glasses to trap heat from the sun, which resulted in wood catching on fire. Solar energy is used everywhere, but is more popularly found in sunny areas. Solar

Solar Energy - 1511 words

1511 words - 6 pages Solar energy can be used in different ways during the construction of houses in order to conserve energy. Solar energy comes as a gift of nature and this makes it even more economical to use in our buildings. It is not only free but unlike other sources of energy; it also limits the amount of pollution caused to the environment. When building our houses the goal according to David Johnston and Scott Gibson is to create a house that consumes at
