Something Wicked This Way ComesRay Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois on August 22, 1920. He is the son of Leonard Spaulding Bradbury and Esther Marie Moberg Bradbury. He lives today as an author, essayist, lecturer, playwright, and screenwriter (A Brief).Bradbury spent his early childhood in Waukegan. In the years between 1926 and 1933 the family moved back and forth between Waukegan and Tucson, Arizona. His career began in 1931 when Bradbury began writing his own stories. Three years later, in 1934, the Bradbury family moved to Los Angeles, California. He attended Los Angeles High School and though he planned on becoming an actor, teachers encouraged him to become a writer. He graduated from high school in 1938 (A Brief).His first piece of literature published was the short story Hollerbochen's Dilemma which was printed in 1938. Bradbury wrote short stories such as Pendulum and The Lake. In 1945 another one of Bradbury's short stories became famous; The Big Black and White Game was chosen as Best American Short Stories. During this time Bradbury was busy working on TV series, novels, short stories, and screenplays. He gained a great reputation as a science fiction writer when he wrote The Martian Chronicles. Ray Bradbury's great works also include Fahrenheit 451, Dandelion Wine, and of course Something Wicked This Way Comes (A Brief).Bradbury lives today in Los Angeles. He has four daughters and eight grandchildren. Even today Ray Bradbury remains a dynamic storyteller and writer (A Brief).The book begins in mid-October in the lives of Jim Nightshade and Will Halloway. These two boys born two minutes apart, living next door to each other were inseparable. One day the boys meet a lightning rod salesman who gives the boys a free lightning rod to put on one of their rooftops. That same night, at 3 A.M. the boys hear a train come into town, they go out to investigate and discover that it is a carnival. The next day Will and Jim go to the carnival and they see their teacher, Miss Foley, there. When they were walking around they saw the merry-go-round that had an "out of order" sign on it. A man told they boys to leave and instead Jim and Will decided to hide up in a tree. While watching they saw a 40-year-old man named Mr. Cooger and as the ride ran backward the man got younger; by the time he got off he was a 12 year old boy. The boys realize Mr. Cooger is really Miss Foley's nephew.The Dust Witch comes to get Jim and Will because they turned Mr. Cooger into a very, very old person. The witch left a sliver mark on Jim's roof so the boys washed it off with a hose and then Will went after the witch. The scuffle ended in Will popping the Witches balloon, which she rode on. The boys decide they must hide from the carnival people when the carnival plots a parade all over the town looking for the two boys. Will and Jim finally decide it's time to tell Will's father about what has been going on. After hiding all afternoon the boys manage to sneak to...
