Spring Cleaning Essay

“Kelly come back, I gave you the wrong set of keys,” exclaimed Ben.

I was on my way to get the riding lawn mower so we could begin our spring cleaning. It’s my Mother-in-Law, Linda’s, monstrous area consisting of two acres. We mow every Saturday during the spring and summer months to help her out since Ben’s father passed away.

Outside a gentle breeze flew by as the sun glared down upon our faces. “Is this the best time of day to be doing this?” I thought to myself; as it was a scorcher outside.

So I ventured back to where Ben sat to get the right keys. “Why do you always seem to hand me the wrong keys?” I hastily asked him.

My mind could not believe what my eyes were seeing; for there had to have been over one hundred items out there that needed a good cleaning.
“Kelly, can you start by taking the chairs out onto the grass?” asked Linda.

“Sure, just tell me what needs to be done,” I answered.

I began taking the items out to the grass one by one. “At least it was in a shaded area,” I thought to myself. I saw Ben pass by on the mower and motioned for him to come over to me so I could tell him something. “Just let me know when I need to come and dump the grass each time,” I told him.

“Alright, sounds good, thanks,” acknowledged Ben.

After Ben finished this back breaking work, he went to the porch to offer a hand. Suddenly I could hear a sort of, ‘country twang’ playing in the distance. I was very focused on my cleaning to ensure the items would shine.

I heard someone shouting my name. “I can’t hear you over that music,” I yelled.

“Kelly, come quick, Grandma just fell!” howled Ben.

I ran up to the porch, tripping over the damn hose in the process. Oh me, oh my, what a site to see. There lay Grandma flat on her butt with her legs straight out in front of her. I silently chuckled.

“What happened?” I exclaimed.

“Well, I went to stand up, lost my balance and fell straight to the ground.” Grandma replied.
