An individual unable to complete all the works by his own, everyone relies on the other’s support and guidance to achieve success. Similarly, a difficult task can be accomplished easily by working as a team. A team is a group of individuals who share the common interest working together to achieve the same goals. Every organisation has teams with members working as one. Team development is a process of linking the individual together to accomplish a task. According to Tuckman’s model, there are five stages of team development, which are forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning (as cited in Fraser & Neville, 1994).

The forming stage of a team is very important as it provides a chance for individual to interact with each other. According to the study of Fraser and Neville (1994), it is vital to avoid making conclusion too quickly and imposing “instant” changes during the forming stage as people can sometimes react and affect each other very negatively. The study went on to suggest that flexible structuring is needed in the forming stage for the team members to be tested and changed around (Fraser & Neville, 1994).
After the group has formed, it will then enter the second stage of group development which is storming stage. This is the most challenging stage that characterizes by quarrels (Moxon, 1993). Arguments occur when group members try to debate with their own views and challenge the others’ ideas (Torres & Fairbanks, 1996). At this point, the power of the leader is the most common topic that often discuss by the group members (Moxon, 1993; Torres & Fairbanks, 1996). By having those conflicts and arguments, some of the group members may have the perception that group work is not an effective method to complete their work (Moxon, 1993). Therefore, they may attempt to do the work alone (Maxon, 1993). Nonetheless, the group can still manage to produce their output, but the quality of the output will be low (Moxon, 1993; Torres & Fairbanks, 1996). In the end of this stage, the group members will try to solve those conflicts by ‘voting’ and ‘compromising’ (Moxon, 1993, p. 9). After they solved all the quarrel matter completely, the group will then move into the next phase (Ali Adnan, Aisha Akram, & Fehmida Akram, 2013). However, if those conflict issues like leadership and power are still unable to solve through ‘voting’ and ‘compromising’, the group members will have to reverse back to the formation phase in order to reform the new group (Moxon, 1993).
After the group went through the storming stage, they will proceed to the norming stage whereby the group members will start to work together (Moxon, 1993; Torres & Fairbanks, 1996). During the norming stage, cohesive bonds will form among the team members (Torres & Fairbanks, 1996). As a result, they will operate more like a team to achieve their common goals (Moxon, 1993). At this point, the group members will try to settle their problems with an effective way (Moxon, 1993). Hence, the groups will try to function together in a pleasant situation (Torres & Fairbanks, 1996). The study of Moxon (1993) found that each member will participate actively in the group during this stage. Also, this is the stage where the renegotiation of the team member’s role and the collaboration of team members take places (Torres & Fairbanks, 1996). The group members will attempt to accept or reject the others’ ideas (Moxon, 1993).
