Statement Of Purposel In Mechanical Engineering

696 words - 3 pages

As a child, I have always looked up to some of my uncles who were in the oil and gas industry and since then, my career goal has been aimed towards one specific direction. My interest in the industry was further fueled when I came across a 1950’s video on the method used to locate oil deposit and drilling technique to bring the natural resources reserved beneath the earth to the surface. They estimated that our natural resources will be depleted in around 30-40 years time. Now, after over 60 years, we are still rich with it by continuously pushing our boundaries to drill at even deeper oceans. It is truly an engineering marvel to see rigs like the Noble Bully 1 Drilling Ship that has a drilling depth capability of 40,000ft beneath a maximum 10,000ft of water to obtain the highly sought after natural resources. Enrolling to Petroleum Engineering in your esteemed university is the natural step for me to develop my interest further and will also be the guiding factor required for me to achieve my ultimate professional goal.
The Mechanical Engineering course at my undergraduate level of education gave me the strong foundation I required along with a great deal of motivation that I had in me to stand out. Apart from the technical coursework which included fascinating topics like fluid mechanics, thermodynamics & heat transfer and others, we were also exposed to hands-on experimentation of the several theories in our program. I was also an active member of the IMeche Society during my university days and participating in its various activities gave me the exposure and moulding I required. During one of our conducted seminar which talks about alternative energy technologies, I realize that until alternative energy technologies are firmly established, the demand for petroleum will always exist. Having to understand this fact, I would like to be a part of the skilled engineers that is responsible in extracting the petroleum in the safest and most efficient technique possible. For that I need a unique advantage which I believe would be truly delivered by your esteemed...
