Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta has always been a spunky, nonconformist individual. From her birth till now, almost anyone would describe her as different, or exotic. Born to Joseph and Cynthia Germanotta, she was raised in a modest, American home with her little sister, Natali (Lady 1). Germanotta was born on March 28, 1986, in New York City, New York (Gaga 2). Living right outside of New York City in the heart of musical prodigy culture, Germanotta was engulfed in exposure to musical genius. Her parents were intelligent internet entrepreneurs, and of course this brilliance rubbed off on her. She began teaching herself how to play piano at the age of four. At age eleven, she was accepted into the world-renowned Juilliard School in Manhattan (Lady 1). However, she ended up turning them down to attend a private Catholic school in the city, Covenant of the Sacred Heart. Even her classmates noted her as unconventional and quirky, she always had it in her. Undoubtedly, she wrote her first piano ballad at age 13, and first performed at a New York nightclub at age 14 (Gaga 3). A few years later, Germanotta gained early admission to the NYU Tisch School of Arts (Lady 1). She studied music and songwriting for little over a year until she dropped out to find her own inspiration as a musician. On her own, Germanotta became a go-go dancer, part-time music publisher, and a nighttime entertainment act to make ends meet and get discovered (Gaga 2). Little did she know that accidentally singing outside the office of a top music executive would land her that dream. Germanotta was signed to Def Jam Records in 2006 (Gaga 2). It was this signing that led to series of fortunate events that landed her big time. With inspiration from the Queen song, “Radio Ga-Ga”, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta became “Lady Gaga” (Brennan 1).
