Stop Animal Cruelty Essay

2145 words - 9 pages

Animals are living, breathing creatures that are able to feel, think and have souls. For people to make excuses and to say that they can use animals as a means of testing, hunting, etc because they are just animals is cruel and uneducated. We as humans are animals as well. Just because we are more intelligent and advanced, it doesn’t give us the right to harm them. Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should, Dr. Ian Dunbar, a veterinarian, an author, a trainer and a behaviorist, argues that ' To touch an animal is an earned privilege, not a right.’ As more advance being, we as human should protect those that cannot defend themselves. Thankfully nowadays there are more and more new laws ...view middle of the document...

From the day they were born to the day they die, they won’t know what love or compassion is. Can you imagine living like that? and if that is not enough, unfortunately, for many of these animals, they die young due to the reaction to the drugs they are tested on or due to other complications. The suffering that these animals face everyday is unthinkable. They are living, breathing creatures that deserve to have the same rights that we as people have, that is, the right to have freedom.
Anyone who has any sympathy would also realize that the tests themselves are so cruel that animals should not be subjected to them. Imagine living your life knowing that everyday, someone is going to come to your room and poke, probe, and do surgery on you without a sickness. Imagine being forced on your back so some alien can attach something or take some parts of your body away. Imagine being forced to live in a cage for the rest of your lives. It is hard to think about, but it is harder for those animals as they’re the ones who are actually suffering, living and dealing with these kind of situation every single day of their lives. Testing on animals is plain abuse. The suffering of these innocent creatures has to stop.
Even worse than animal testing is animal fighting. We, as humans don’t have or deserve the right to subject these wonderful beings to fight against each other for the purpose of entertaining us. The entertainment that we get just simply are not worth the suffering that these animals face. With the media and animal control tv shows being more readily available for people to see, we can see the gruesome truth behind these animal fighting rings. The most common animals that are used for these fighting practices are usually roosters and dogs, especially the bully breed dog. These dogs are bred to be aggressive, they are trained from the day they were born to fight other animals just for their sick entertainment and for gambling. These dog were often given life bait as practice, and sometimes, those life bait are other smaller dogs or cats. To make matters worse, these live baits are often times a loved pet that has been stolen from someone’s backyard or house. To these people who train and make them fight, the dogs are nothing but a disposable item. Sadly for the dogs, if they loose during the fight, or if they are deemed unaggressive by the trainer, often times, they are inhumanely killed or just dumped somewhere. The dogs that survived and won, will be given some time to heal before it will be used to fight again. The dogs that consistently win these fights will then be bred to produce “aggressive champion fighting dogs”. Fortunately, dog and rooster fighting are illegal in most states and persons involved are subject to heavy fines and imprisonment. However, with these new laws, people are becoming more secretive about their fighting practices, they started doing it underground and worse yet, they have now started “trunking”. Trunking is...
