Subway Restaurant Owner's Interview Essay

906 words - 4 pages

I interviewed the Subway restaurant, owner of my work. Her name is Rohini Chopra. She was born and raised in India. Rohini came to California when she was twenty one years old with her husband. She grew up in a business oriented family. She had two brothers, and she was the only girl in her family. Rohini's mom received a high school diploma, and her dad received a bachelor's degree. In India, her dad owned a brick factory. He had two hundred employees in his business. For instance, the person I interviewed bought her second Subway restaurant. When Rohini first owned the Subway, she discovered that sales were very slow. As a result, she was thinking very hard and trying to find out why the sales growth was going down. After three or four days, she discovered that the employees were not giving good customer service. In the store, there were all male employees, and when there were no customers, they went outside and smoked right in front of the Subway entrance door. That was one of the reasons some customers did not come. Another reason was that the employee did not speak to the customers politely, which was big reason that some customers did not come a second time once they had been there before. As a result, Rohini had a meeting to talk to the employees. At the meeting, she told everybody that she is not going to fire anybody as long as they worked honestly, hard, and followed some new rules that she was going to make. Everybody agreed with her new rules, such as no smoking outside while they are working, talking to customer politely, not arguing with them, and trying to make them feel satisfied.During the interview she also said that in business, it is very important to know how to handle the financial situation. First of all, business starts with financial issues, and as people go along with the business, it will get more complicated. When people start a...
