Success Is Key Essay

No matter where students are at in their life when they come to college, it seems to be a similar experience among many making the transition to a place that may be half-way around the world or just around the corner. Beginning college should be a positive experience that is memorable and enjoyable considering the intuitions of the University of Oklahoma. It is in the best interest of the first year composition office and University of Oklahoma to help students fulfill the goals of the student by continuing to enforce the attendance policy.
The values and goals that the University of Oklahoma emphasizes are not far fetched compared to those of the students. As posed on OU’s academic integrity website, a few goals and values attained by the university include, “honesty, responsibility, and ultimately giving the students the best opportunity to learn and grow” (Academic). Many students go to college and do not have a particular academic plan; the goals and values of most students seem to be similar no matter the case. Venturing out into a new or maybe familiar place with newfound independence can help students learn and grow as individuals as well as academically. Subsequently, The University of Oklahoma wishes to aid students in achieving and promoting their goals for success.
The student population at any college can be particularly diverse, which denotes that the preparedness level of the students will be relatively similar in the fact that the education up to college varies among each student. Transitioning to a college atmosphere may not be so easy no matter what the students’ situation may be. The attendance policy is one of the many resources that the university defines so that structure will not arise as an issue during that transition. One of the most important facts students must know about college is that attending class can affect the whole college experience.
Beginning college as a student out of high school, it may be new information that attending each and every class is crucial. According to the Huffington Post, “The first on the list to getting good grades is to go to class! It better prepare students for midterms and finals, don’t be the one who only shows up on those days” (How). Students often feel that the attendance policy is a punishment. It is notable to remember that it is merely to help relieve stress any student may have from transitioning into college. Going to class can only help make grades better and a success rate throughout students’ college career will remain of consistent attendance becomes a habit.
