Surviving DisruptionDisruptive innovations merupakan salah satu ancaman yang serius bagi suatu produk. Setelah menebar ancaman , kemudian Disruptive innovations annihilated targetnya. Sebagai contoh adalah amzon dan apple store yang menyerang tower records dan musicland. Disruptive innovations kadang sangat cepat dalam menyerang , kadang juga bisa sangat lambat . Disruptive innovations sendiri merupakan inovasi yang muncul dari competitor yang akan memakan market dari produk yang sudah eksis, dengan cara yang destruktif.Untuk menangkal disruptive innovations ini ada beberapa cara. Antara lain adalah mengidentifikasi kekuatan dari bisnis model disrupter, mengidentifikasi advantages yang dimiliki oleh perusahaan, dan mengevaluasi kondisi yang kira- kira akan membantu atau juga yang akan menghindarkan perusahaan dari disrupter yang akan mengambil advantages dari perusahaan dikemudian hari. Untuk membantu perusahaan dalam memahami kekuatan dari disrupter, digunakan extendable core , yaitu aspek yang mendukung performa dari disrupter dalam mendapatkan cutomer lebih banyak lagi.Disruptive innovations menurut Michael Raynor berasal dari pengembangan teknologi dan model bisnis yang bisa menjelma menjadi disruptive move untuk mencari lebih banyak permintaan dari customer. Pada awalnya disruptive innovations bisa memaintain advantage ketika sedang melakukan peningkatan performansi. Namun tidak semua advantage tersebut overpowering, kadang malah memiliki disadvantage. Melalui identifikasi apa yang orang butuhkan dan apakah kebutuhan tersebut dapat dilakukan dengan cara yang lebih mudah, conveniently or affordably, disrupter dapat lebih banyak menarik customer dari perusahaan yang merupakan competitor . Jadi ketika disruptive innovations menawarkan lebih banyak keuntungan dan hampir tidak memiliki kelemahan maka disruption bisa dikatakan sudah komplit. Namun sebaliknya jika memiliki kelemahan dan keuntungannya tidak signifikan maka disruption akan berjalan lambat.Ada lima jenis barrier untuk disruption yaitu: momentum barrier, tech implementation barrier, ecosystem barrier, new technolog barrier dan business model barrier. semakin sulit barrier atau semakin tangguh lawan yang dihadapi oleh disrupter maka customer akan tetap pada incumbents.
