Swot Analysis Techniques Of Baker Hughes

1183 words - 5 pages

Making a decision takes time and critical thinking. A person must analyze the advantages and disadvantages in order to come to a decision. For example, the decision of pursuing advancement in the professional field is a major one. Making a choice such as moving to another job, or requesting more pay can be a difficult decision for some individuals to make. These major decisions must be thought out carefully, and analyzed to determine what the best decision is. This is a decision that I must make. In my current position as an Administrative Assistant, I am considering a possible advancement in my organization. The problem I am facing with Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids is the company does not have any room for advancement in my department. I must make a choice of whether or not to remain in my current position and wait for a position to become available, or leave the organization and pursue other options. I will be using the SWOT analysis to help me in the decision making process. I believe the criteria matrix and the force field analysis would not challenge my decision making skills as I know the SWOT analysis will. The criteria matrix would just categorize my thoughts of what I think is good or bad about the company and would not go into detail. The force field analysis would look more at the forces of what makes Baker Hughes meet a specific goal or what is preventing the company from meeting a goal. The SWOT analysis seems like a better avenue to take to make my decision. The SWOT analysis provides information based on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (Diskienė, Galiniene, & Marčinskas, 2008) Strengths of Baker Hughes include a well-known company name, and an overall good reputation with their customers. Baker Hughes is a worldwide leader of infrastructure and resources. New technology differentiates Baker Hughes as a leader in providing reliable products and services for oil and gas wells. The people at Baker Hughes are highly motivated and believe in teamwork. Baker Hughes is the only major oilfield company structured among strong product line divisions that are focused on best-in-class products and services (Milmo, 2008)).Some weaknesses of the company include the lack of productivity when it comes to getting updated computers and software. I have experienced this when I moved into my current position as an Administrative Assistant. It seems upper management will get the newest computers and software even though they are not in charge of inputting information into the system as I was. I believe if I am the one putting information into the system, I should have an updated computer that could handle that information, so I could be able to run several reports at one time to make the job run more smoothly. This lack of productivity is a huge weakness for Baker Hughes. The opportunities of Baker Hughes outweigh the weakness. The opportunity to have a successful professional career is achievable.
