The Hersey Company knew it needed a better way to communicate valuable information to the farmers so it developed COCOALINK. COCOALINK “Connection Cocoa Communities” is a first of its kind program that uses mobile technology to deliver practical information on agricultural and social topics to rural cocoa farmers (The Hershey Company, 2012). While not every Ghana farmer has a computer, most of the farmers in Ghana have cell phones. The Hershey Company uses this technology as a smart way to get information to the farmers to ensure they have knowledge they need to be successful. Communication is key in the global marketplace. First of all, global marketplace companies need to communication the same message in many different languages, be consistent in product terminology, and communicate through the right source such as face-to-face, internet, social media, or mobile (Linton, 2014). Companies in the global market will need to be able to communicate with internal as well as external participants in relation to the product or service.
Team Effectiveness
As global marketplace companies move towards having many different bases but all operating in the same manner team effectiveness becomes more important to maintain the integrity of the mission. When it comes to virtual team effectiveness, Berry (2011) states the effective mnagement of virtual teams requires knowledge and understanding of the fundemental principals of team dynamics regardless of time, space, and communication differences between virtual and face-to-face work environments. So when a manager has the information needed to make informed decisions she can manage even a virtual team toward effectiveness. Yang & Guy (2011) describe team effectiveness as having three distinct indicators: participant satisfaction, goal attainment, and system resources. It may be when employees are engaged in the process and can see how their jobs tie into the greater mission they are satisfied and this adds to the effectiveness of the team.
