Code of Conduct is defined as "a statement setting out the guidelines regarding the ethical principles and acceptable behavior expected of a professional organization or company" (Oxford, 2007). Banner Health is one of the largest nonprofit hospital systems in the country, operating in seven states Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada and Wyoming, employing over 28,000 people in 22 hospitals and healthcare facilities (About Banner Health, 2008). The Code of Conduct gives guidance to what actions and behaviors are and are not acceptable to the people employed by the banner health system. This paper will answer the questions of why, how, when and for whom a system of inquiry is used.A system inquiry or Code of Conduct is developed to produce an ethical culture that will guide employee actions and decisions (Trevino & Nelson, 2004 p. 226). The Code of Conduct is used to evaluate any contravention and for decision-making regarding, problem solving and the employee behavior. A Mission statement, states the purpose which guides the activities at the organization; a Vision statement expresses what the organization does; the Values statement, states the organizations beliefs (Building Your Business Pocketbook, 2004). Everyone employed by Banner Health should be following the organizations Code of Conduct and mission, vision and values statement, which clarifies all the employees' responsibilities and what is expected from them while employed by the healthcare system. The majority of my coworkers appreciate that there's a system in place not only to ensure compliance but also to protect them. Employees who follow these standards allow for growth and successfulness of themselves and for the Banner Health system.All new employees are required to sit through a two day orientation. During the orientation, importance is stressed on the Code of Conduct and the Mission, Vision and Value statement; both documents are reviewed and explained in detail and then each employee is required to sign a document stating he or she will follow Banner Health's Code of Conduct for the duration of his or her employment at Banner Health and agree to incorporate Banner's mission, vision and values into his or her daily work performance. Signing the document means the employee understands the information presented and agrees to provide the highest level of service in a courteous, ethical, professional and legal manner and to treat all people fairly without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, gender, religion, or social or economic status (Bankston, 2007 p. 22).
