Team Diversity Paper: Diversity in Learning Team AThere are many types of diversity in the world today, and no one person can understand all facets that the word diversity holds. By understanding the positive and the negative impact on a group, as an individual and in the groups people work and play with they can open their minds to the possibilities of what diverseness in an organization, team and individual can achieve. Former President Jimmy Carter put it best when he said (http://quotes.telemanage.ca), "We are of course a nation of differences. Those differences don't make us weak. They're the source of our strength." One way to embrace diversity in a team is to identify what has the greatest impact on the effectiveness of that team. In this paper the members of this learning team will discuss how the occupations of each learning team member define their role on the team, why religion should be kept separate but the ethics one has should be applied in the team setting, what role gender plays in communication and that differences in sexual orientations in a group have a greater positional for flex ability. There will then be an examination of what impact it will have on how our learning team will function as a whole.According to reports, diverse teams achieve higher levels of technological and organizational efficiency than do homogenous work groups and therefore organizational flexibility increases. The most obvious benefit of a diverse learning team is that it represents all facets of today's society. These diverse backgrounds include an array of ideologies and institutions, such as different languages, customs, belief systems, social hierarchies, and sexual preferences. It is absolutely necessary to understand that today more than ever cultural diversity is an important fact of both life and business, due to the changing face of society, therefore, school as well. This cultural diversity also occurs in the form of sexual orientation. Interaction between openly gay and straight people in the workplace will only become more common, especially as our society continues to become more understanding of the "alternative" lifestyle. Gays and lesbians in the workplace and school environment, once comfortable, will have a positive effect on both communities. Allowing the freedom to discuss sexuality in an educational setting would result in opening students to a more diverse and cultural experience, making students more balanced. Learning teams will benefit by having a much broader pool of individuals from which to draw experience. Allowing all individuals to partake in the team's requirements may also be more likely to improve performance of the group overall. Exposing students at the college level to this new trend will also better prepare them for confronting the issue of sexuality in the workplace. This will introduce students to something that they or their organizations, more than likely, would not have gone out and discovered on their own.In...
