Team Personalities Essay

An individual develops different personalities over a period of time from childhood to adulthood. When it comes to team personalities, these personalities are constructed of all team members' personalities that are measured from different personality tests. The individual's personalities are mostly measured from the well known Myers-Briggs personality measurement test."The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a psychological test designed to assist a person in identifying their personality preferences. It was developed by Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Myers during World War II, and follows from the theories of Carl Jung as laid out in his work Psychological Types. The phrase is also a trademark of the publisher of the instrument, Consulting Psychologists Press Inc., and the trademark is registered by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Trust. The test is frequently used in the areas of pedagogy, group dynamics, employee training, leadership training, marriage counseling, and personal development, although its value has been questioned by scientific skeptics and some psychologists" (WordIQ.com, 2009).After each team member receives the individual results from the Myers-Briggs personality test, there will be some differences and similarities of each team member on whether the characteristics are extraverts or introverts, thinking or feeling, sensing or intuition, judging or perceiving.Similarities and DifferencesThe Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI was formed to help describe the Jungian view on psychology. The Indicator includes 16 different personality types using eight dichotomies which are Extroversion, Introversion, Sensing, Intuition, Thinking, Feeling, Judging, and Perceiving. The Myers-Briggs test combines four of the dichotomies to come up with the individual's personality assessment. Each of the dichotomies used contain an opposite dichotomy on the scale. For example, extroversion is the opposite of introversion. Extroversion and Introversion explains how the individual deals with interaction with other people. Sensing and Intuition deals with how the individual takes in information. Thinking and Feeling explains how the individual makes decisions. Finally, Judging and Perceiving explains how the individual sets up his or her life to run. The Myers-Briggs test is one of the most commonly used tests and is considered to be one of the most accurate.Our group has two different combinations of the 16 found in the MBTI. Cha-Z Mcneil and Diana Summermatter are listed as Extroversion, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving.
