Internet's Negative Effect On Today's Society

1188 words - 5 pages

It is so obviously clear that technology is taking over and running our life. Technology is everywhere and is having massive negative effects on our social wellbeing in today’s society. Basic essential skills now being googled as this knowledge is now untaught or forgotten leaving us terribly deficient in basic survival skills. Social media now also gaining thousands of new users to impress and socialize every second online with instead of having face to face conversations with someone in real life. Bullying and trolling also now on the rise with ability to appear as anonymous and face no consequences, with new technology being more and more part of actual living instead of being just a desired object.
With the new advancements in technology in today’s society it literally encourages people to be reclusive, allowing you to not even leave your house to get food. All you need to do is shop online and get it delivered to your door-step, as easy as a click of a finger….You could live in your house forever if you wanted with the advancements in technology these days. I think things like online clothes and food shopping has now raised a major issue of many people now having problems with basic social skills and social interaction when coming face-to-face with people in real life. There has even been psychologist from California state University, Los Angeles and U.C.L.A look into it and they said ''initial qualitative evidence is that the ease of electronic communication may be making teens less interested in face to face communication with friends'' this giving us stone cold evidence that there is now a concern that many people in the near future will be doing more online than they will be in real life, now that technology is a mere extension of reality

I also know that there is now far too many people that are dependent on technology too much these day. with internet addiction on the rise and more and more new technologies to keep up to-date with every year the amount of time spent on internet alone increase dramatically. There was an article posted in the new York times about how much time people spent online which said ''Americans between the ages of 8 to 18 spend on average 7 and half hours a day using technology like smart-phones to mp3 plays to computers'' The telegraph also has an article on this saying ‘’Researchers found nearly four in five students had significant mental and physical distress, panic, confusion and extreme isolation when forced to unplug from technology for an entire day the article expands further on this and tells that many of the students that took part used the same vocabulary to describe their emotions after the study took place, some of these words being ‘’dependent, depressed, fretful and confused’’ this study was carried out over 10 different countries like Britain, China and the USA. This clearly tells us that we have become far too dependent on these pieces of technology and cannot go without them for more than a...
