Technolgy And Social Media Essay

1090 words - 4 pages

The most interesting thing I find in technology and social media when the social media first came into use, many parents were objected to the idea of their kids using them social networking sites as socializing tools. Many parents argued that the social sites and social media in general were ruining the moral values of their kids with some of them arguing that it made their kids lazy. Some of the parents ended up blaming technological developments especially in the communication sector for the immoral activities in the society. However, this is not the case today. At the present moment, many people have embraced the social media and other technological innovations which they believe has a positive impact in people’s lives. Based on the people’s changed attitude towards technology and social media, I find it very interesting to look at the reasons why the society changed its views towards the social media and technology.
The social media and technology have a lot of benefits to the society. One of these benefits is that they provide a platform for people to easily interact and their share their opinions and ideas on several matters affecting the society. Technological developments in the communication gadgets such as smartphones and other portable electrical gadgets such as laptops and iPads have made it easy for people to communicate wherever they are. These gadgets enhance communication since they access the internet which individuals use to access social media such as the social networking sites. Through the social media, people are in a position to interact with each other irrespective of their geographical location, culture or race. Many observers believe that the social media has made the world a “global village” as people are able to know what easily happens in one corner of the earth.
Many parents changed their views towards technology and social media because it enabled them to keep in touch with their family members. This is because they provide a cheap and effective communication platform, which in turn enables people to communicate with each at a very cheap rate. For example, if parents and kids are in separate nations, they can easily communicate with each other through electronic mails, Facebook or even Twitter. Besides this, they are also able to share pictures therefore knowing the state of health that they are in. This ensures that family members are in touch with each other irrespective of the distance between them (Lovett 34).
Today, social media and technology are used to facilitate teaching and even administering of assignments. Gone are the days when students had to be physically present in class with teachers for learning to take place. Today, there are many virtual learning institutions whereby students are taught by a teacher who is many miles away from them thanks to technology. This is usually achieved through video conferencing whereby a teacher is in a position to conduct his or her lessons without being...
