Technology has resulted in leaps and bounds in the development of faster and more efficient ways for people to communicate and connected with each other globally. It is an undeniable truth that the world’s economy has undergone substantial growth ever since the industrial revolution. Modern day commerce is largely affected by the speed at which information can be shared between two or more parties for pivotal business decisions to be made. Beginning with the widespread use of fax machines and desktop computers and progressing onto the use of internet applications and email, the speed with which business can be conducted is only limited by the human factor. Technology is also able to connect international and regional businesses through new business innovations such as teleconferencing which allow colleagues to communicate with each other across different countries without the need to travel or for them to be in a localized area. Businesses are also able to communicate with their consumers a lot more effectively through the internet. They are able to advertise and reply to feedback from consumers which improves the strength of communication between the business provider and the consumer.
However, potentially the largest impact that technological advances have made on communication is the interpersonal communication between people. Communication improved through the invention of the telephone which allowed voices to be transmitted almost instantaneously between two parties. The telephone then evolved into the mobile phone which has allowed people to remained connected even when they are on the go. One such benefit is connecting people who live in different parts of the world. Families with relatives in other countries are able to enjoy conversing with one another and even video chatting with each other without the need to physically be in the same location or having to send letters that require a long time before reaching the intended recipient. This has helped to strengthen bonds between parties and made it easier for them to communicate with the world.
Technological advances have without a doubt played a large impact in contributing to the development and progress of communication. Together, they have made the world a smaller place and connected all corners of the globe.
