I enrolled in Educational Technology 2300 as a requirement for my Early Childhood Education Degree. When I first enrolled in this course I really had no idea what this course entailed except as per my instructors first email, it would not include the use of a laminating machine. Instead, I have learned that Educational Technology is compiled of multimedia resources and audiovisual aids that will enhance a students learning process. As a future teacher, I have learned that Educational technology is important and necessary in today’s Internet information based society. We as teachers need to know how to access and utilize what information is available and thus provide our students with the tools that are needed to succeed.
It is important as to how we present the information to students. We can model our lesson plans after theories that have been presented by leaders in the field of educational technology. For example, Robert Gagne. Though Mr. Gagne’s research dates well before computer integrated education, it is still a valuable resource. As teachers we need to capture our student’s attention and create engaged learners and this can be accomplished by reminding our students as to what they have already learned, present new information and allow them to practice what they have learned while being able to share this information with their classmates. Using educational technology resources allows this once intimidating task to become simplified.
I found that there are resources to stimulate a students learning and can be accessed easily via the Internet. In one of our class discussions, we researched website and have found that teachers are able to organize their lesson plans by compiling and classify these tools based on the information the websites provide. For example, do they deliver instruction or provide practice? To deliver instruction, educators and students can use the Kahn Academy website located at www.kahnacademy.org. This site offers instructional videos on all core subjects while allowing students to learn at a pace that they are comfortable with. It enables students to increase the level of difficulty as their confidence in the subject matter increases. For those students that want to practice the skills they know or that they have recently learned there are many interactive websites available. One of those website can be found at www.4Kids.org. It is a great educational tool, not only does it provide skill practice in the areas of math, geography, and spelling, it does so in a fun, engaging format. I have also learned that educational technology is not only a learning, instructional resource for students, but it is also one where teachers are able to collaborate together. A website I had
reviewed and will definitely use in my future teaching career was at www.sharemylessonplan.com. This site brings together a whole community of educators focusing on the same goals; creating and sharing lesson plans that ensure students...
