Advances in home security, agricultural robots, particle beam weapons, 3D displays for computers and cell phones for hotel room keys are the technologies in development that I will discuss in this paper. Images will be displayed on a fog or mist that will allow users to work together and move images with a swiping motion. Currently a MisTable screen is in development. The screen consists of a table top, fog machine, reservoir and projectors under the table. The fog machine produces a fine mist above the table where users can work. I believe this technology will be overwhelmingly beneficial to the medical research fields, engineering and entertainment industries.
This summer the Navy will deploy its first particle beam laser on one of its destroyers. Technology is still being tested to use this type of delivery for rail guns on naval destroyers. I believe all branches of the military will eventually using this technology for a number of different reasons. Work still needs to be done to work out glitches such as loss of effectiveness in less than perfect conditions such as rain, dust or turbulence in the atmosphere the payoff will be insurmountable. Particle beam lasers have the ability to shoot down aerial drones can be operated by one soldier or sailor, can shoot a continuous beam without having to reload and costs pennies on the dollar compared to today’s technology, currently one interceptor missal costs tax payers one million dollars.
Wouldn’t it be easier if you could check into your hotel via your cell phone? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could pick out your own room, have the temperature set to your liking and use your phone as the key to open the room? Well if the Hyatt chain of hotels has their way you will be able to in the near future. Researchers are currently working on a system that will allow travelers to use the NFC chip in your phone to do all this and more. You would be able to check out of the hotel, pay the bill and alter the cleaning staff that you are gone so they can come in and clean. The NFC chip will then forget the code used to do all this as soon as you check out. Unfortunately Apple products to do not support NFC technology, however the industry knows that Apple products hold too much of the market to ignore them. iBeam technology is also being researched for this type of application. I think this will be a huge hit for frequent business traveler. There is nothing worse than getting to a hotel and having to stand in a line to check in after a long day of travel.
