“In 2010 the percentage of teen obesity went from 5% to 18% in America.” (http://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/obesity/facts.htm). Teen obesity is becoming a major problem for a lot of teens; obesity comes with an unwieldy lifetime of troubles physically and mentally. Inadvertently, this problem is becoming bigger each year, but by making the right choices they can stop this.
How do people become obese? This results from an “energy imbalance”. The definition of energy imbalance is “Difference between the scheduled delivery and the actual usage of energy to specific point on a utility’s distribution system over a time period, usually tracked hourly and measured in kilowatts. Hypertension “is the term to describe high blood pressure” (National Library of Medicine). So being obese can result in a person having: Type 2 diabetes, Asthma, Sleeping problems and Hypertension; that is just the beginning. The irrevocable long term effect of obesity includes: Heart Disease, Osteoarthritis, many types of Cancer and Myeloma. First let’s talk about heart disease. Having a heart disease means “A structural or functional abnormality of the heart or of the blood vessels supplying the heart, which impairs its normal functioning” (medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com). Then there is a chance a person will develop osteoarthritis which means “is the most common joint disorder, which is due to aging and wear and tear on a joint” (National Library of Medicine). He/she could also get cancer such as breast, colon, endometrium, esophagus, kidney, pancreas, gall bladder, thyroid, ovary, cervix and prostate. It’s not over yet, he/she could also develop myeloid. Myeloma means “is cancer that starts in the plasma cells in bone marrow. Bone marrow is the soft, spongy tissue found inside most bones. It helps make blood cells” (National Library of Medicine). If being obese affects their health that much how can they prevent it?
The two rules they need to know to prevent becoming obese. Rule number 1, healthy eating. This includes having a balanced diet. Eating a balanced diet is extremely important.
