The Actual Definition Of Success Essay

Every day in our lives, we desire to be perfect to please others. We would feel unsuccessful if we do not achieve perfection, no matter how hard we try. For example, in the Olympics, a new champion receiving a gold medal persuades young athletes to worry over winning a medal in every competition they compete. They try to think that if they do not win a medal in a certain competition, then all their hopes are vanished for the next one. This action shows that if we do not strive to emulate other people’s achievements, then we would not stand out from the rest of the population. Without family love and support, she would have been able to work hard to pass her classes in college.
Another concept that Mirkitani’s speaker fails to acknowledge is hard work. The speaker describes “each failure [as] a glacier (line 25).” Mirkitani’s use of the word “glacier” symbolizes the speakers’ sense of overburden from using her failures as a quest to reinvent herself as an individual to obtain a perfect grade point average. Additionally, the poet’s emphasis on the word “each” illustrates the speaker’s failure from recognizing what success represents. If the speaker had reinvented herself to obtain a perfect grade point average, she would have realized does not represent suicide, but represents lifelong dedication and hard work.
Finally, the last concept that Mirkitani’s speaker fails to acknowledge is happiness.
