The Day My Life Began Essay

1020 words - 4 pages

There were hundreds of them. Crawling over me, spreading bacteria, germs, diseases, laying their filthy eggs under my pale skin. I scratch, I scrape, I claw at them, but they just multiply before my eyes. Countless dirty great cockroaches, scuttling over, under, through my clothes, repulsive fat maggots, obviously well fed, come oozing out from under my skin. The pain is overwhelming me. No matter how hard I try, to free myself of these foul creatures that I have only seen in my most sinister dreams, they won't disappear. They are on my skin, in my clothes, they are in me. My dark hair is now infested with deplorable, despicable, detestable, disgusting, bugs. It won't ever be clean again, it must go. I frantically search for scissors, a knife, anything that would cut away my now contaminated hair, all the while slapping away at the endless insects that are eating me alive. I open my mouth to scream, as the pain from the clawing bugs, and my brutal attempts to rid my body of the foul creatures, overwhelms my mind. I try to scream, talk, yell, but as I open my mouth a fresh torrent of slug-like creatures spill out into my lap. The putrid and vile taste of the bugs cloud my senses. I heave and the little bile left in my stomach gushing up my throat, into my mouth and nose, splashing out into a fetid mess on the ground. I can't stop, it keeps on coming until my stomach hurts and I can't breathe. The plague of bugs are still on me, ruining my life. I try to stand but suddenly my legs give way, I come crashing down and my head collides with something hard and sharp. I don't even try to fight the darkness, I just let it take over my body.Voices. Lots of voices, crying, yelling. I try to understand what they are saying but it is a jumbled mess, incomprehensible to me. I drift back into the shadows of my mind.I'm lying on something soft. I open my heavy eyelids to see where I am. Immediately light blasts in, blinding me, returning me to reality. I listen to the sounds around me. A ceaseless beating, which vaguely reminds me of tribal drums pound relentlessly into my head. I can hear hushed voices that seem to be nearby. I try to work out what they are saying, but the information seems to be filtering very slowly between my ears and my brain. Bit by bit I begin to gather the conversation being held and I try to organise it into some sort of comprehensible meaning. The conversation stops as I struggle to move my arm to shade my eyes from the light, but pain suddenly floods through my body and a small gasp escapes my lips. I can hear the people's footsteps walking away, into the distance. I don't want them to go. Don't go, I try to call out to the people but only a pathetic...
