Introduction
There are many challenges for today’s organizations, such as globalization, intense competition, rigorous ethical scrutiny, the need for rapid response, the digital work place and the increasing diversity (Daft, 2010). Indeed, management and leadership are important factors which may influence success of an organization. In order to analyze how these factors may influence an organization; this essay will introduce a change event in small organization- a university broadcast station.

Firstly, organizations could bring resources together to achieve desired goals. Secondly, by using modern manufacturing and information technologies, organizations may produce goods and services effectively. Thirdly, organizations could adapt to and influence a changing environment. Fourthly, organizations could create values for owners, customers and employees (Daft, 2010).

Some key elements may be involved in an organization. One opinion is that a key element of an organization is that it is made up of people and their relationship with one other. People interact with each other to perform essential function in order to achieve goals (Daft, 2010). Also, it has been proposed that seven factors in an organization might be vital, they are structure, strategy, system, superordinate goals, skills, staff and style (Waterman, Peters & Phillips, 1980). Among all these elements, structure might be a decisive one, because it may divide task and provide coordination (Waterman, Peters & Phillips, 1980).

What is organization structure is also an interesting topic to investigate. It has been argued that there are three key elements in the definition of organization structure:
‘‘Firstly, organization designates formal reporting relationships, including the number of levels in hierarchy and the span of control of managers and supervisor. Secondly, organization structure identifies the grouping together if individuals into departments and of departments into the total organization. Thirdly, organization structure includes the design of systems to ensure effective communication, coordination, and integration of efforts across departments’’ (Daft, 2010, p.90).

It has been hypothesized that there are seven primary dimensions of organizational structure: specialization, standardization, formalization, centralization, configuration, professionalism and flexibility (Pugh, Hickson, Hinings, Macdonald, Turner, & Lupton, 1963). These structural dimensions provide the internal characteristics of an organization (Daft, 2010). Specialization is ‘‘the degree to which organizational tasks are subdivided into separate jobs’’, which can also be illustrated as the division labour.
