How will seeking the DNP enhance my professional goals?
I am delighted in my career as a professional nurse and seeking the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) gives me the opportunity to expand my knowledge base in order to practice at a higher level, and obtain the terminal degree in my profession. My goal is to become an adult nurse practitioner, with primary focus to improve the practice of nursing. The Doctor of Nursing Practice will equip me with knowledge and skills needed to understand and appreciate research and facilitate the process of putting evidence into practice, with the overall goal of achieving improve patient safety, satisfaction and outcomes. The Doctor of Nursing Practice will enable me to assume more leadership role, in practice and in research. I should be able to participate in research and formulate nursing models guided by evidence based practice models of care. Having practiced as a professional nurse for five years, obtaining the Doctor of Nursing Practice gives me the opportunity to foster my professional growth and development.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice will provide me the analytic skills, substantive, and critical knowledge needed to provide high quality compassionate nursing care at the advanced practice level. The Doctor of Nursing Practice will provide me with skills and knowledge needed to participate, support research and knowledge development, to improve the effectiveness of nursing practice, policies and programs.
What life experiences led me to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree?
Having been born and raised in a third world country, I can say with certainty that I have experienced the ravaging effect of poverty and lack of health care providers. I still
have a visual image of my late aunt who died while delivering unattended by a care professional. Minorities, low income Americans, and people in rural America continue to
suffer the most from chronic and preventable diseases because of inadequate access to primary care providers. These are the people, these are the life stories and experiences that is pushing me to seek the Doctor of Nursing Practice and looking forward to serve high quality compassionate nursing care. The community clinics, the elderly in nursing homes, and providing health care in rural America and remote villages in third world country, will be ideal practice settings for me

When I graduated from high school, my goal was to become a nurse but the reality in my country of origin did not fare well with my ambition.
