The End Essay

990 words - 4 pages

I slowly open my eyes to the sound of my alarm clock; another day of work to get done. My parents are dead. They left me alone with my brother, Noah, when I was fourteen. I am seventeen years old now and my brother and I are slaves. We weren't always like this; my parents died because they went into hiding, I was raised in a cave. We don't have last names-only first. Sorry about that, as you can probably tell I'm very open and very forward.
I have two outfits, one for everyday use and one for charging time. I start to change out of my charging outfit into my work clothes when I look over at Noah. Noah needs to charge up for he is three today. I plan to surprise him with a cake but that is the most dangerous thing to try to do here... to make people smile.
I finish getting dressed and walk over to my little brother's bed; it is time to start the day. He opened his beautiful little green eyes and stared at me, then said, “Morning thithter!” I smiled, he was so cute. I unplug the back of his neck so he can get ready for daycare. He isn't big enough to work yet.

“ 'SUP RUTH!!!” yelled my friend Gage. We've been best friends my whole life.
“Hey Gage! Noah says hi.”
“Tell him happy birthday for me.”
“OK.” We both stop talking because we see Mackenzie. Today is also Mackenzie's birthday... she is eighteen. Today is her last day as a human; she looks scared. She notices us and says sorry.
“For what?” Gage asks.
“I'm just saying sorry for everything that I am going to do to you two after...” Mackenzie starts crying, “...after they take... there is something about eighteen...”
Mackenzie's master walks in and grabs her by the arm before she can say anything else. I have never seen Mackenzie's master before. He had high cheekbones and a straight jaw. His face was pale but surrounded by dark brown hair. His eyes were a baby blue; they looked like a creek that we see in books. He was tall and nicely built but I don't know how old he is, his looks were frozen in time.
Everyone in the room watches her leave and wonders which one of them will get her as a master. Which one of them will be ordered, struck, and made to work by Mackenzie someone that everyone knows and loves.

My master walks in with her shoulders pushed back and her head held high. My master is the most important one of them all, she is our leader. No one knows her name. If you find out her name you get shot by a bullet that comes out of her hand. Her...
