The era of Artificial Intelligence is upon us, the rising technology within the AI field is quickly becoming one of the largest technological fields within the technology industry.
The rise of AI is so prevalent that even basic AI within devices today now seems commonplace; the introduction of AI like Siri on the IPhone seems trivial yet is a prime example of how prevalent the technology of Artificial Intelligence is becoming.
The rise of AI becomes of great importance to a large majority of the workforce, any job that could theoretically be made autonomous or something that requires little to no learning or variation in its task could become redundant with the introduction of more advanced ...view middle of the document...
This change in technologies brings with it positives and negatives, the greatest negative will be the sizeable reduction in the workforce and the reduction in jobs is predicted to be up to 90% of current jobs with most being taken over by “smart machines” (Gartner Research, Brant, 2013).
The artificial intelligence technology is impacting more of the world every year; the industrial sector will be hit hard by the introduction of autonomous robots as the technology brings with it cheaper labour, 24 hour production and workers that don’t take breaks.
Artificial Intelligence brings along it the ability for every person to have their own personal virtual assistant, simple ones like Siri by Apple and more complex ones like IBM’s Watson. The virtual assistant will become a greater part of everyday life in the future as information and applications become condensed and there is a need for a way to centralise and have a way to manage all these things, and this is where the virtual assistants come into play.
The majority of the current consumer market have never given thought to implementation of virtual assistants into their devices and everyday life, the implementation of SIRI into the IPhone is an example, very few understand where this came from yet it is a great leap in bringing virtual assistants to people everywhere. The advancements in the artificial intelligence technology mean that having an intelligent virtual assistant has become viable. The use of virtual assistants will also extend beyond personal use as is seen in the case of IBM’s Watson which is able to provide advice to doctors when given a patient’s health record as it is able to refer to its database and intelligently pick the advice that is relevant to the patient’s health (Gartner Research, Austin, 2013).
The addition that Virtual Assistants make to society as a whole cannot be ignored and this is being reinforced by the introduction of devices that can act like a personal virtual assistant like; Google Glass, Apples SIRI, Microsoft’s Cortana and IBM’s Watson. These will all make a great impact as these devices become the centralised hub for all your information needs and will be a major technology in the future as the need for more complex virtual assistants for the everyday person becomes higher.
