He teaches her what life is really about. One day she will not be here, that statement is inevitable. However, it is not about the time left, it is about living in the present. His lessons let Hazel open up to the world, and show everyone the real her, Hazel Grace. After her incidents and obstacles with Augustus, she now knew she was on top of the world. It was a feeling like no other. Augustus made Hazel step out of her comfort zone, to live life.
Augustus was always an outgoing young boy who could really light up a room. Gus’ somewhat fixed mindset, was that he did not listen to others’ feedback towards him. However, this was also a growth mindset, he did not listen to others because he did not worry about what other people thought of him. He is allowed to make his own decisions when it comes to life. Just like how Augustus changed Hazel, Hazel also changed Augustus. When Hazel walked into his life, she taught him how to listen to others. Hazel also showed Gus how strong people could be. Gus watched as Hazel battled this cancer, and he was proud of her. Gus and Hazel were two people that connected, to help and teach each other different things. As a result, Gus was a whole new person. His mindset now was that he persists from setbacks like Hazel’s cancer and his own. Augustus is able to work through those issues while enjoying life.
It is necessary to grow your mindsets through life. Mindsets are just how they sound, a set mind. You do not want to have a fixed mindset, because that way, you seem as if you do not want to grow as a person. Mindsets are the base of academics, sports, and personality. Some mindsets are hard to understand, but are simple to work at. As the mindsets of Hazel and Augustus improved, it changed many parts of their lives. Furthermore, their strength overall increased, especially in fighting their rough cancer treatments. Mindsets can help many grow as a person. However, it is also great to be unique in every way. Do not forget, there is always room for improvment! Live life to the fullest. “Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you're living?”
