The Font Bureau in a privately held company that was founded in 1989 by publication designer and media strategist Roger Black, and internationally known type designer David Berlow. David Berlow entered the type industry in 1978 as a letter designer for several respected type foundries. He is a member of the New York Type Directors Club and the Association Typographique International and remains active in typeface design. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the foundry remains small with independent designers providing infusions of creativity. (The Font Bureau)

The Nobel series was designed for Font Bureau by Tobias Frere-Jones.
In studying the many different font styles, developed or modified by The Font Bureau, I am amazed of the imagination of these designers to develop and create font families that are different from one another and within these families, to create different styles. Take for example the Agency FB font. This font has 25 styles within its family; from condensed to bold to wide to light, etc. The Agency FB was a spinoff of ATF Agency Gothic designed by Morris Fuller Benton in 1932. David Berlow saw potential in the squared forms and developed lowecase and added a bold to produce the Font Bureau Agency.
Another font developed by The Font Bureau that has many different styles is Clicker. This font family has 45 styles. Created by Greg Thompson and Font Bureau, Clicker offers a contemporary appearance. By looking at the examples, these two fonts are prominent san serif fonts that seem somewhat constricted.
