The gods must be crazy
You could say that the movie has 3 different plots who all merge togheter in the end. The movie begins by showing a tribe of bushmen who lives in the Sahara dessert. After that it switches over to scenes of stressed people living in the crowded and fast paced city. The narrator describes the life of people living in the city aswell as the lives of the bushmen. When you see the city you get to listen to a woman who decides to quit her job and to get work as an english teacher. Her name is Kate Thompson and she is tired of her job as a newspaper editor. When the movie starts she is living in Johannesburg but later she has to move out to a small village where her new job takes place. To get there she has to go with this man called Andrew Steyn who appears a bit strange to her but in the end she reaches the village like she was supposed to do.
The second plot we see is about a bushman called Xi. He and his tribe are happily living in the desert when suddenly something falls out of the sky. One of the tribe-members picks it up and brings it to the rest of the tribe. The weird object was a regular coke bottle which someone threw out of a plane. No one in the tribe has never seen anything like it before and it is harder than any materials they know of.
At first the bottle seems to bring joy and happiness and they discover that it serves as a tool for all kinds of things. Soon they are all in need of the bottle and a fight breaks out between two children. Xi then realises that the bottle is something evil that the gods has sent them and he decides to throw it off the end of the world. He says goodbye to his tribe and begins the journey to get rid of the evil bottle.
The third and last plot is about a group of terrorists who breaks in to the parlament and kills several people in there. You get to see them getting chased by the military and how the chase turns in to a hostagesituation. Here is where all the three plots turn becomes one single plot and all the different characters are togheter.
The movie takes place in South Africa and is set to appear in the early 80’s which is when the movie was recorded.
The bushmen are very simple people who does not have any connection to the outside world. The most these people will interact with other people is when they occasionally meet other tribes of bushmen but that is very uncommon. The bushmen do not wield any form of technology and they can only use their surrounding as a tool. They do not have a concept of time or money. They do not have crime or possesions and they live very happy without all of this. They do not ever feel the need to hurry or the need to slow down. Their lives are not even a tiny bit stressfull because of their simple lives. When you think about it, it is kind of funny how they are the...
