The Good Underneath Essay

1087 words - 5 pages

Anne Frank once wrote “Despite everything, I believe that people are still really good at heart” and I personally agree with this statement. Anne Frank was a Dutch, Jewish girl who went into hiding during the Holocaust. She and her family were hiding from the Nazis in the time of World War II. The Jewish were one of the people to starve in Hitler’s Hunger Plan. Anne during her time in hiding wrote in her diary that in today’s time is published. Sadly, after a few years of hiding, she was arrested and died at a concentration camp. Her words however still affect our time and rings out. She’s able to see the light through all the darkness and that’s where her quote comes and it rings true. ...view middle of the document...

Miep is another person who reached out during this dark time. Despite all the risks of being arrested and all the consequences, she still helped the Franks in their time in hiding. There was a lot of discrimination against Jews and the hiding of Jews. The act was also against the Nazi law. Miep, however with the goodness she had in her heart, hid her friends from the terror. (Billings and Billings). In the play “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Frances Goodrich & Albert Hacket, Miep brought the residence a cake. She brought a lot of joy to the group which is expressed in Mrs. Van Daan’s quote “It’s been ages since I even saw a cake. Not since you brought one last year Remember? Don’t you remember, you gave us one on New Year’s Day? Just this time last year? I’ll never forget it because it had “Peace in nineteen forty three” on it. “Peace in nineteen forty four!” (Goodrich and Hackett 548). Even with this little cake, Miep managed to brighten peoples’ moods. In life, we encounter people that may not seem good. But then there is the occasion where you see a different side of them. One day I was going through the hall and I dropped some items. One of the people were often judged by others for having a bad character, reached and picked up my books with me. That little gesture to me exhibit goodness. So to me, even little things count along with big things to show goodness.
Even though sometimes actions are terrible, the motives and reasons might not. Hitler has definitely done his share of bad things. However, his reason to do such things weren’t bad. Germany was having trouble in their agricultural business and the Germans were beginning to starve. So instead of getting involved in world trade like the UK, they decided to take other land and farm there. However that meant a lot of displaced people and the way to fix that problem was to exterminate them. So even though the extermination part wasn’t so good, he did it for the good of his people. The situation was...
