The Great Gatsby – After Chapter Two
A) Daisy’s Perspective:
I had always imagined living in a fancy house and attending extravagant parties filled with people just like myself. I also imagined marrying the perfect husband, Tom fit the bill. I’ve lived in East Egg ever since I married Tom. It’s beautiful here, everything a girl could want – a large estate, a beautiful river, other high class people, and of course my beloved husband.
Tonight my cousin, Nick, is driving from his new house in West Egg to my mansion to have dinner with Tom, myself, and our friend Jordan who is a very skilled golf player. I am lying on the couch waiting for him to arrive while I engross myself into a conversation with Jordan, however she does not look too intrigued. Soon enough Nick arrives and we exchange greetings.
We then situated ourselves at the large dinner table to begin our meal. Nick brings up a book named The Rise Of The Colored Empires. I’ve heard Tom talk about that book a few times. I mention to everyone how Tom is always reading books with such big words. Before we could continue our discussion the phone rings. Tom is a little hesitant to answer the phone but I hastily walk behind him as he leaves the room to answer the ringing phone. I know quite well who is on the other line of the phone. Tom is having an affair with some nasty New York woman. Tom does not hide his affair at all; if anything he flaunts his mistress all around New York.
After Tom hangs up the phone we both return to the dinner table to continue our meal. I turn to my dear cousin and tell him what I told the nurse at the hospital, “ I’m glad it’s a girl. And I hope she’ll be a fool – that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool ”. Our beautiful evening of drinking had to have come to an end at some point. Nick bid his goodbye and was soon in his car back to West Egg. I began to think about how Nick mentioned he lives beside Jay Gatsby, I haven’t heard that name in ages. If I could see Jay again I would most certainly be instantly entranced.
