According to Geoffrey of Monmouth, the Britons were people of incredible history and of true promise. His book provided what the Britons needed to hear, that their history is original that they have a place among the British Island, so significantly so ,that the book suggested that the island is their ancestral homeland. Is it always a way of life for the British to fight for their freedom? Just as Brutus led the Trojans away from Greek subjugation to the fight to keep Saxons off their homeland for so long by King Arthur. (Geoffrey, p. 217-218)
Merlin , another key figure in this tale, played an interesting role in the book. A man with remarkable abilities who guided men to the path of rightful kingship such as Arthur. Merlin represents an unnatural force sent from the Heavens to ensure the Britons they will regain their land in due time. Merlin prophesied the future of the Brits and their role on the island.(Geoffrey,171-185) The Prophecy was meant to tell the Britians of the battle between them and the Saxons over their homeland.The prophecy itself shed despair yet a glimmer of hope for the Brits. Just as Merlin tells Arthur the prophecy that he will one day return to Albion and lead his people back home.
