This type of music is the product of influences of different cultures from different periods and the behavior of society due to the Columbus exploration of the Americas. Many things were exchange and adapted because of this. Even though there were a lot of tragic and traumatizing events that happened the development of Latin music was one of the positive things that happened. Latin music history began with one of the most influential and indigenous people, who loved to create music with “wind and percussion instruments”, and they the Mayans. Spanish language was from the rest of Latin America. Another benefactor of the arrival of the Europeans was that it expanded their music to different areas that no one had known. Not only did the Europeans bring their music but they also brought with them their instruments as well.
One of the most important thing to Latin music is the African influence, which was from the European’s African slaves. The African beats and sounds can be found in “Samba, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and Timba” types of music which are all Latin base. Of course not all Latin music is African based but the majority are. Also the African-American music was very influential to Latin music. For example the making of Jazz was a very big in Latin rhythms like “Mambo, Bossa, Nova, and Latin Jazz”. The African-American techniques have become big in R&B and Hip-Hop which have helped the making of Latin Music like “Reggaeton and Urban music”.
The mixture and combination of these three different cultures, European, African and Spanish have created Latin music for a long time. Latin music has all these different sounds, rhythms, tradition, instruments and native identities that makes it very unique even though it has some similar sounds to other cultures. We see this also in Latin Pop by being made by conversioning of Rock, Pop, and Alternative music. We this as well in the conditions that was created from immigration and the division of class which led to the making of the Tango. Again, after the Mexican Revolution, the Mariachi music was made into the idea of what we think of as Traditional Mexican music.
The History of Latin music is a very complex type of music because of all the cultures and ideas that were used to create this type of music, which has many different types of styles within it. Latin music is still very popular today with many people listening to Latin Pop which includes these very well-known artists today “such as Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, Juanes, Selena” and many others. Latin music has a lot of different cultures and sounds into one that make it what it is today. Something very unique that has taken over most of the world.
