The Benefits Of Genetically Modified Crops

About 90% of planted areas of soybeans in the United States are genetically modified strains. Genetic engineering is very important to modern society because of the world’s expanding population and with the arising need of food; it provides an adequate source. Genetic engineering may have both advantages and disadvantages, but the future of mankind may be affected greatly if it is allowed to prosper as a modern science. Several main arguments that many people have about genetic engineering are the effects of scientific evolution, cloning experiments and the moral line that is presented with life altering consequences. The human justification for regulating the research is utter nonsense, being the only things they have to back up their arguments is the potential experiments involved in treating diseases. Genetic engineering may even be used to treat something as common as the flu, granted something stronger may develop in response to the increased human resistance, but with the research and developments that are being made, Darwin’s “Survival or the fittest” motto could be applied to everyone. That is if course everyone uses the enhancements equally, which is impossible considering the barriers of money and even genetic code. From current understanding, there are certain codes that cannot be mixed in the human body that coexist, therefore certain races would have certain modifications that could only be added to them. But in those cases Darwinism may create a social barrier between those with enhancements and those who remained human. A rift like that may cause very high tension and even a larger scale conflict than we have now.
But with the bleak outlook on the future of our planet, it’s doubtful this science will remain controlled for very long. Genetic engineering may provide an answer to a dying planet, which may be the case in a few centuries, terraforming new areas or even improving life so that humans can live in harsh conditions and perform at peak performance. Along with hopefully adapting to a harsh planet or While those disadvantages are clear there are many advantages within, including the how the human race may evolve out of the pesky disease stricken state it’s in.
The evolution of the human race may begin and even end with genetic engineering. Through genetic engineering you can theoretically manipulate the deck of life, changing what you were born with and even changing the food we eat, by creating stronger strains that are insect resistant, have an improved quality and yield more during harvest. According to Anderson the perspective rewards for gene therapy are amazing, being able to suppress or eliminate inherited diseases entirely. However, mistakes could happen in therapy and could cause extreme and permanent deficiencies (Anderson 1).
