The argument presented in this research paper is to discuss the importance of the history of portable media and comparing it between present and future technologies. By laying the foundation for portable media the cellphone created possibilities and room for innovation. Studying past patterns to reflect on past historical milestones which have created a foundation for technologies to evolve from and adapt to by doing so this will predict how much sooner new technology will be available. With the integration of Web 2.0 in today’s world it proves to be the greatest factor in the advancement of all technology, It has become the single most important factor in determining where technology is and where it could develop to be. As Web 2.0 expands and becomes ubiquitous so must portable media. They coexist and as one advances into the digital age so must the other. Technologies such as Sixth sense and Nano technology will be the future of portable media. With the immersion of all these components the future of portable media is strong and endless possibilities arise we just have to meet the demand.
The history of communication has changed from the days of the first telephone. Not long ago the era in which society was at was the information age; the age in which an individual has the ability to gain instant knowledge and share and distribute information with our any restraints. Today information is not only limited to the factor of text but has now expanded to visual, auditory, and instant, real time information. The direction of technology can be predicted from past and present innovations and ideas. The importance of predicting the path of technology is crucial because it gives innovators an estimate or idea that can contribute to the advancement of technology. The first step is to understand the origin and history of technology leading to present technology. The main focus of the argument is the short and long term milestones and advances in technology to the area of portable media. The cellphone has been the power house of all portable media devices thus far and it is an excellent example of what is to come in the future of portable media. One factor stands in the way of advancement and without this ingredient it will be impossible for portable media to advance. Web 2.0 is the missing ingredient and it is the single most important factor which determines the direction of future technology. As Web 2.0 advances so must technology. If the web where to be absent, today’s technology would not be in the position that it is in, which brings up the idea that technology becomes dependent on Web 2.0 and thus must adapt to future changes to the web.
II. EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY
In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. This was a milestone in itself it connected people and was the closest to thing to instant communication, but this was only the beginning; it created a revolution (Cell-Phone-Accessories, 2010). ...
