The Importance Of Human Resource Management

Human resource management (HRM) is undoubtedly being considered as an indivisible element of the organisations from the outset. From recruitment to employee retention, HRM has always committed to assist company to search and retain talents that have values toward the sustainable development. In view of the fact that, there are several studies with evidences presented to prove that there is a relationship between HRM and organizational performance, in which some HRM theorists also suggested that there is a causal link between them (Cooke, 2000). And yet, the concept of ‘performance-enhancing’ is the identical factor that they were all agreed on (Huselid, 1995). Moreover, it included comprehensive recruitment, employee participation and involvement, flexible work arrangements, training and otherwise.

To clearly define organizational performance, there are being categorised as two aspects: financial and operational. As for financial performance, it contains quantitative variables such as accounting returns, sales, and profit. On the other side, operational performance measures the level of productivity, effectiveness, employee retention, and so forth (Comb et, al, 2006). All of these variables are generate as a measurement that used to evaluate an organization’s overall performance.

To begin with, the use of HPWPs increases employees’ overall skills, which is considered as a benefit toward organizations. As HRM is responsible for the whole process of recruitment and selection, there is a correlation that the person they hired will affect the organizational performance in terms of the employee’s personal abilities. Therefore, there are two paths for HRM to raise the performances regarding employees’ overall quality, either by hiring the talents or training the currents. Broader recruiting and selectivity in staffing introduce KSAs to the organisations (Hoque, 1999:503). KSA, the abbreviation of knowledge, skills and ability, which is the qualities or characteristics the careers acquired for. With the particular focus on KSA, HR can base on these requirements and efficiently target on specific field of people who matches it. On the other hand, applicants themselves can identify if they are capable for the job they applied based on the job needs that announced in the beginning of recruitment. Also, along with the concept of ‘person-job fit’ and ‘person-organization fit’, HR can filter out the ineligible applicants to avoid further costs. By bringing in the qualified employees, it increases the total level or KSA of the company and ultimately become a competitive advantage. Moreover, in order to increase the skills of the current employees, comprehensive skill training is required. The effective training of problem solving skills, social communications skills and technical skills can help employees to tackle with issues and remove bottlenecks that emerge from the changing market. Research showed for companies that put forward formal training programs are 19% increased in productivity than those who did not (Kling, 1995). The extensive recruitment and selection as well as effective trainings on different skills enhanced KSA for employees according to resource-based view, which eventually lead to the increased in productivity and standard of products guaranteed.
