Everyone knows that physical education helps improve a person’s overall health. Students that are physically active and participate in physical education courses are less likely to make bad decisions that could possibly affect their health or change their overall outcomes in school. Physical activity can also help improve circulation, raise endorphin levels, help reduce stress, affect the students overall mood, and can also help students to be more attentive in the classroom.
Physical activity is not only considered to be sports. Physical activity is defined as any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness. “People between the ages of 5 and ...view middle of the document...
Inactivity is one of the main risk factors for heart disease. However, exercise can improve the heart’s health and reverse some factors of heart disease. As a result of exercise, the heart becomes stronger and it is able to pump more blood through the body and is also able to continue working at the maximum level needed without putting it through too much strain. Therefore the resting heart rate of those who are physically active is slower. Of course a person who exercises daily has a lower risk for heart disease, but any amount of activity is beneficial to one’s health. Physical activity has many effects that are beneficial to the heart and circulation. Some of these benefits include improving cholesterol and fat levels, reducing inflammation in the arteries, and helping to keep blood vessels flexible and open. People who maintain an active lifestyle have a 45% lower risk of attaining a heart disease opposed to people who do not participate in any type of physical activity. Participating in physical activity, if only a little bit, can cause beneficial changes in cholesterol and lipid levels. However, participating in a large amount of activity significantly changes cholesterol levels and causes a notably increasing HDL. By keeping arteries flexible, people are ensured a good blood flow and normal blood pressure. Keep in mind that intensive exercise may not lower blood pressure as well as moderate exercise. “Resistance training may be useful for heart failure patients since it strengthens muscles which commonly weaken in disorder”(www.health.nytimes.com).
One of the best ways to improve circulation is through exercise. Exercise can be split into three categories: aerobic exercise, weight training exercise, general exercise. Aerobic exercise is the best type of exercise to improve circulation. Any exercise that keeps someone constantly moving for 20 minutes is aerobic, but resting takes away the aerobic element. Aerobic exercise is exercise that involves the breakdown of sugar with the use of oxygen. The sugar is obtained from the liver’s glycogen stores until it is used up and then it is obtained from fats. The process is slower when the body starts using fats. The “swap-over” causes a temporary slowing of the body’s energy. The reason aerobic exercise is better to improve blood circulation than any other exercise is that aerobic exercise is known to strengthen the heart muscle. By doing this, the efficiency with which it pumps is improved. “There are other advantages of using aerobic exercise to improve blood circulation.
• By improving blood circulation, it tends to lower blood pressure
• It tones the muscles throughout the body
• It strengthens the lungs, which means that more life-giving oxygen can be absorbed
• The number and quality of red blood cells are increased – the cells which carry oxygen to our body tissues
• The brain receives more oxygen – maintaining and improving memory and thought processes”(www.alternative-healthzine.com)
