How might finance help to cure depression? This may look like an absurd question at the first sight, but it happens to me that the logic behind finance actually aids me to treat my depression. I used to be a perfectionist who tries to take the very control of my future, and could not tolerate any tiny failure. Although I performed well in most cases, I always paid more attention to what I did not achieve. Meeting with psychotherapists did not treat my depression well because those sentimental psychological theories could hardly persuade me until I come across finance, whose rough numbers and rational logic are much more convincing to me. As my career progresses, I will move my career to China and aggressively pursue a buy-side career in private equity. My short-term goal serves for my long-term plan although there is a huge change in working place. The finance industry in China is unique because it has been mostly politics-directed since 1970s. Whereas, China is currently at a critical point in its history that a political and economic reform is taking place. Under such circumstances, the finance industry would be more market-directed in the near future. The working experience in Investment Banks in the US would better prepare me for a market-oriented environment, and therefore boost my long-term career in China in the foreseeable future.

My internship as a financial analyst and consultant with the Global Business Service division of International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) reinforced my interest in this industry.
