The Lack Of Evidence For Creationism

877 words - 4 pages

On November 24th 1859 one of the most influential books ever written was published. I am of course referring to the Origin of Species. The origin of species was published by Charles Darwin, it outlined the theory of evolution and was immediately ridiculed by the religious community as it went against the story of creation in the bible and to this day it is not fully accepted as the truth of our existence. Evolution has its evidence also, unlike creationism which there is no record of its occurrence and we have no evidence these days, we can see everywhere we look that all organisms seem to be suited to their surroundings, now if animals stayed in one place forever then we could attribute this perfection to a divine creator. They don't. They move around, yet they are still suited to the environment, how is this? Evolution proposes that animals adapt to new environments by natural selection. The DNA that makes us who we are is not always copied perfectly; when a mistake is made it is called a mutation. If a mutation fits an animal to its environment better then it is more likely to live and reproduce, passing the mutation on to its offspring. Those without the mutation are less likely to reproduce and as such will slowly die out. There are examples of this all around us. The most obvious of them is beaks in species of bird, in fact this is what Darwin first noticed natural selection in. in the Galapagos different species of finch on different islands had different beaks suited to what they ate. Natural selection does not directly force a change, it merely uses the principle that if a gene makes an animal better at surviving, that gene will spread; this is often know as survival of the fittest. Evolution is the only feasible explanation for the utter perfection of a changing world.
