Moreover, he uses a concoction of Christianity, Islam and witchcraft to create his own cult. Although he draws from both the Bible and the Qur’an, he also receives guidance from rituals involving black magic.
A warrant was issued for Kony along with four of his commanders by the International Criminal Court in 2005, for crimes against humanity and related war crimes. According to the U.S. State Department, two of the commanders are believed to be dead, while the whereabouts of Kony and the two others is unknown. The United States currently has a reward of five million dollars for information leading to Kony’s arrest and capture.
In 2006, the government of Uganda arranged for peace talks with Kony and the LRA. However, it is evident that Kony has no intention of negotiating with the government as he has refused to come out of hiding to sign the agreements. It has been reported that in 2007, he killed his second-in-command Vincent Otti during peace talks.

Child Soldiers
With no ability to recruit due to lack of support, the Lord’s Resistance Army has kidnapped more than 66,000 children between 1986 and 2005, according to the U.S. Department of State. Although the majority of these were only held briefly or somehow managed to escape, many children were forced against their will to join the ranks of the LRA and become child soldiers. The LRA would then require these children to commit heinous acts. Likewise, many would be brutalized themselves.
During the raids in which the LRA captures these children, many are forced to own watch their parents being killed violently in front of them. Often, under fear of death, many will be required to murder their own parents or siblings. Women are mutilated and raped in front of their children. Sometimes these children are forced to eat mutilated body parts of the victims. The object of this is to terrorize the children into being submissive to the LRA.
The traumatized children will then go on to murder, rape and mutilate other children as well as adults as the group roams from village to village. In addition, these young soldiers will be brain washed into believed that they are doing the work of the Lord, by “purifying” those who are unwilling to repent. It is estimated that the group is responsible for forcing over 1.6 million people to leave their homes. Likewise, the LRA is responsible for the deaths of more than thirty thousand children.
Kidnapped children are forced to haul the group’s supplies, often without food or water for days. Those who cannot walk fast enough to keep up with the group are killed. Likewise, children who cry or attempt to escape are also killed. These murders are usually committed by other children using machetes or by setting the child on fire. Moreover, within a week of their abduction, children are required to murder another child.
