The Mythology of Lilith
For some reason, sitting in class on the day that the class turned in their I-Search, I heard something that made me think of Lilith. Researching Lilith was not too hard, but finding any interesting details was. Lilith has become tied into many stories, she has been a Demon, a fallen angel, a feminist, and the mother of the Vampires. According to the creepy, weird, possibly neurotic people that claim to be Vampires, she is not the mother of the Vampires. Actual mythology on the origins of Lilith and her role in Biblical history is a bit hard to find, there are a few general aspects that seem to be generally accepted, but each web-site I visited seemed to have their own opinions. Personally, I find the Lilith myth VERY interesting, because if paints a completely different picture of the Judeo-Christian God. God is definitely not perfect, and he is in fact a very vengeful god.
It is generally agreed upon that Lilith was the first woman, created at the same time as Adam. My main source was a site called The Gnosis Archive, it was an excellent site, with tons of great information. Just like Adam, she was created from dust; though some claim that the dust that God made her from was impure, which is why Lilith became evil. Another source said that "He used filth and sediment instead of pure dust." It is also unclear as to whether or not Lilith was a demon or not, one said that "from Adam's union with this demoness[Lilith], and with another like her named Naamah, Tubal Cain's sister, sprang Asmodeus and innumerable demons that still plague mankind." I am not certain that this is really based on the Bible, because this would mean that Adam and Lilith created Demons, but most information said that this was Lilith's doing.
In either case, Lilith left Adam for a specific reason; it seems that during sex, Adam demanded that Lilith lie below him, because she was made to be his inferior; Lilith did not want to lie below Adam, reasoning that she was made of dust, just like Adam was, so she was logically his equal! When Adam tried to force himself on Lilith, she spoke the name of God, and shot up to heaven. From there, the fled to a cave near the Red Sea, where she copulated with demons, producing hundreds a day. Adam, upset about this, then begged that God bring Lilith back to him. God immediately sent three angels named Senoy, Sansenoy and Semangelof to find Lilith and force her to return.
As I said, Lilith had fled to the Red Sea, which is where the three angels found her. The angels demand that she return to Adam at once, on God's order, but she tells them that she cannot return to god because she has laid with Demons. The angels tell her that to disobey meant death, but Lilith said to...
