The Needs Of Input, Output, Storage Communication Devices To Computer Processing Cycle

10650 words - 43 pages

Introduction
Computer is a machine that can be programmed to accept data (input) process it into useful information (output) and stored it away (in a secondary storage device) for safekeeping or later reuse. The processing input to output is directly by the software but performed by the hardware.

To function, a computer system requires four main aspect of data handling:

        Input

        Processing

        Output

        Storage

         Secondary Storage

Input

        Processing

        Output

Figure 1.1 the hardware responsible for these four areas

Input devices accept data or commands in a form that computer can use; they send the data or commands to the processing unit.

The processor; more formally known as Central Processing Unit (CPU); has electronic circuitry that manipulates input data into the information people want. The Central Processing Unit actually executes computer instructions.

Output devices show people the processed data-information-in understandable and usable form.

Storage usually means secondary storage, which consists of secondary storage devices such as disk-hard disk or diskettes or some other kind of disk-that can store data and programs outside of the computer itself. These devices supplement memory or primary storage, which can hold data and program only temporarily.

Input: Getting data from the user to the computer

Some input data can directly to the computer for processing. Input in this category includes barcodes, speech that enters the computer through a microphone, and data entered by means of a device tat convert motions to one screen action. Some input data, however, go through a good deal of intermediate handling, such as when it is copied from a source documents (jargon of originally written data) and translated to a medium that a machine can read, such as a magnetic disk. In either case the task is to gather data to be processed by the computer- sometimes called conventional input devices include the keyboard, mouse, trackball, touchpad and joystick.

Keyboard

A keyboard, which usually is similar to a typewriter keyboard, may be part of a personal computer or part of the terminal that is connected to a computer somewhere else. Not all keyboards are traditional, however. A fast-food franchise such as McDonald's for example, uses keyboard whose keys represent items such large fries or a Big Mac.

Touch screen

Input device over the television or a special computer screen that is used to simplify user input and response. The user touches the screen rather than a keyboard, keypad, or mouse to control the output. Touch screens work best with menus or multiple-choice decision points, and also allow some simulation of hands-on training, i.e....

It is also important for the computer. Pointing device means there is a pointer that can be controlled by user on the screen. One of the example can be used to described pointing device is mouse. Generally, the mouse needs to use USB port to connect to the computer. Now, they have

Understanding Computer Hardware and How Input Devices Work

1832 words - 8 pages . Basically, hardware refers to the electronic and mechanical components of computer. Software which also refers as program uses to operate computer. Let’s put our focus on the computer hardware. Hardware Like what I say just now, hardware is the electronic and mechanical components of computer. Without the hardware, computer cannot function well. Some example of these components is input device, output devices, storage device, communication devices

Input/Output-to-State Stability and Output-to-State Stability of Direct-Form Digital Filters with Finite Wordlength Nonlinearity

1274 words - 6 pages This paper proposes a new criterion for the input/output-to-state stability (IOSS) of interfered direct-form digital filters with finite wordlength nonlinearity based on an augmented Lyapunov function. Without external interference, the output-to-state stability (OSS) and asymptotic stability of direct-form digital filters with finite wordlength nonlinearity are also guaranteed under the proposed criterion. This criterion is expressed by linear

Everything you need to know about output devices

1188 words - 5 pages Everything You Need To Know About Output Devices What is an output device you ask? Well, an output device is anything that can convert electronic information into hard information. The most common form of an output device would be a printer. The printer would be the device that would take the electronic information from most commonly a computer and put it on to a piece of paper and now that electronic information would be information that can

The Components of a Computer and Information Processing System

975 words - 4 pages ). Information Processing Information processing is a cycle. The sequence of events includes input, processing, output, and storage, in that order (Karbo, 2002). Inputs and Related Hardware/Software Input is the information that a person puts into a computer. Input can be in many different forms such as text, voice, or clicking. An input device is the hardware or software that a person uses to put information in the computer. The hardware might
